met a man when I moved into my present apartment. A fine elderly and
fervent child of God. He is poor as he seldom come to me for financial
help. I never thought he was once a rich man until he told me his story.
He said he got born again in the 70's through one of the young men from the Charismatic. According to him, since there was no Charismatic in his village at the time, he was handed over, as a new convert to the DLBC.
He loved this church; swallowed all their teachings and soon became Assistant Zonal Leader. He got so engrossed in the work of the lord that every one admired him, including his present landlord. At that time, it was to him as if Rapture was few days away. He refused to do any long time investment like buying landed properties, and even dissuaded others from doing so. He said he told them they were building for antichrist.
In one of his business' trips to Kano to buy beans directly, he said his conscience refused him to do the mixing other were doing. Eventually he bought OLORI ( a type of beans), though expensive. When he brought it to the market, consumers rejected his price even though his was the original. After that major business loss, he moved to yam business. He could not do electronic business which was better for him then because he preached against them as sin. Sometimes he would lock up his yams for days because he must attend the church programs. By the time he returned most of the tubers are spoilt. His capital was almost gone. In fact, he was sinking into poverty. And lastly very surprising and devastating to him he soon discovered that the people he had counseled not to build house for antichrist had actually gone behind him to buy lands and build houses. Moreso, even leaders that taught the same thing he taught actually have houses now. Devastated, he left the church poor.
He joined another popular ministry known for empowerment teaching. He called it the LFC. He spent good six years with them, believed all their teachings, prayed all their prayers, and confessed their yearly confession yet things remained the same. He said he had almost lost his christian conviction as this church is a little bit carefree in some vital christian doctrines. Now he has also left the church he thought would bring him back to prosperity again because of what he had heard.
My friend seems not disposed to return to DLBC eventhough his wife has returned, and he just resigned from LFC. Please advise him if you are touched by his story. Also help to share it so others could also help with their advice.
