They are not cursed for not paying tithe!
In the recent time, I have had to argue that
Jesus did not condemn tithe and that tithing was a good and necessary thing
(Matt.23:23). But today, I intend to talk more on what many pastors used to
enforce tithe payment, and that is the fact that anybody that refuses to pay
tithe is cursed. That is a lie! Nobody is cursed for not paying tithe. This is
a lie from the pit of hell.
But
you may be quick to refer to what God says in Malachi 3:8-10. Now we must
remember that every law given by God in the Old Testament goes with a curse. In
Deut. 27:26, it is written ‘’cursed is the one who does not confirm all the
words of this law.’’ In other words, anybody who fails to do, whether as a Jews
or Gentiles, is under a curse. But because as New Testament believers we are
exempted from the ceremonials laws, Jesus had to do something in Galatians. It
reads ‘’for as many as
are of the works of the law are under a curse;…Christ has redeemed us from the
curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written cursed is
everyone who hangs on a tree.’’ (Gal 3:10-13).
There is no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus (Rom 8:1). In
this New Testament era, God’s emphasis is on giving, and that must be done
willingly. There is no curse anywhere even if I don’t pay one-tenth of my
income. But I will keep on paying because God loves a giver, and asks us to
give.
Note however that as New Testament believers more is expected of us in terms
of giving. The article is not meant to serve a relief to those who naturally
don’t like giving. In Acts Chapter 5, Ananias and his wife gave above ten
percent from the sale of their property, yet God killed them for lying. The New
Testament giving is higher and above tithing. What God does not like is the use
of threat which this piece tries to correct.
